We’d love you to be involved in our parish!
Here’s what we do at the moment:
Greyfriars RC Primary is our parish primary school.
The catchment Catholic Secondary school is St Andrew’s RC High School in Kirkcaldy. The secondary schools in the town are Madras College and St Leonard’s College.
We are always in need of new members to help keep our beautiful church looking its best. If you can help by joining the rota, please contact the parish office.
New volunteers for this important role are always welcome. Please contact the parish office if you would like to join the team.
Contact the parish office if you would like to join our reading rota.
Choir and Music Groups:
We are currently looking for choir members. Please contact a member of the choir or come along to a practice at 10.00am on Sunday before Mass in the church.
Please contact the Parish Priest if you would like further information.
St Vincent de Paul:
The SVP is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing direct practical assistance to anyone in need. Our local contact is Alex Allen, email@example.com
The A.A. Group meets every Monday at 1pm in the church hall. Contact number is 01334 474938
Legion of Mary:
The Legion of Mary is the largest official apostolic association of the church with 10 million members. Founded in Dublin in 1921 by the Servant of God Frank Duff, the Legion takes its inspiration from St Louis Marie de Montfort’s much loved classic: ‘True Devotion to Mary’.
The Legion fosters personal spiritual development through the daily discipline of prayer and action “…in the Spirit of Faith and in union with Mary” under the direction of the parish priest. In addition to weekly meetings members commit to a specific apostolic task each week always working as a team or in pairs, never alone, so that the Person of Jesus is once again seen and served by Mary his Mother.
In St Andrews, apostolic work includes a weekly rosary group in Greyfriars school, monthly public rosary, cemetery visits, Communion visits, home visits, book barrow, and ‘door to door’ faith sharing. Last year 1700 homes were visited and 900 miraculous medals distributed. Apostolic work can be challenging but members witness to the tremendous results in their own lives and in the lives of others.
Membership is usually by application. There is a 3 month probationary period and full PVG disclosure will be needed.
Parish Pastoral Council:
We have a joint Parish Council, representing the parishes of St James’ and the East Neuk.
We depend on the generosity of all those who use our church to keep going. If you are a UK taxpayer we can claim back around 25% of any money you give to the church, if you Gift-Aid your donations.
You might also like to have a monthly standing order with your bank, donating to St James’s, so if you are unable to attend Mass our church is still supported.
Please let us know if you would like to Gift-Aid, use envelopes or make a standing order.
We always need and welcome more volunteers to help in our parish! We need readers, catechists, cleaners, altar servers, musicians, gardeners, passkeepers, and many other volunteers.
Fr Michael John will be very happy to hear from anyone who would like to become more involved in the life of our parish community.
