Enrolment at Greyfriars Primary School
Jan 14 – Jan 18 all-day

Enrolment will take place at Greyfriars RC Primary School during the week commencing Monday 14 January 2019. Please call the school office to make an appointment with the Headteacher. The deadline for enrolment is Friday 25 January.

Children who reach the age of 5 on or before 19 August 2019 must normally start school in August 2019.  Children who reach the age of 5 after 19 August 2019, but on or before 29 February 2020, may also start school in August 2019, though parents are not obliged to send their children to school until the first entry date after their fifth birthday.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Jan 25 @ 7:30 pm

The Churches Together in Britain and Ireland’s 2019 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is taking place this week (18-25 January).  This year’s theme is ‘Only Justice’ and is based around Deuteronomy 16:18-20, ‘Justice and only justice, you shall pursue…’.  To mark the event, prayers will be held at St James’ on Friday 25 January at 7.30pm.  All welcome.

The next meeting will take place on Thursday 14 March, 7pm, St James’ church hall.  An agenda will be emailed ahead of the meeting.


Grief to Grace
Feb 16 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

“Grief to Grace” is an apostolate which aims to bring healing and peace to those affected by sexual abuse.  At the invitation of Archbishop Cushley, Father Dominic Allain, International Pastoral Director of the apostolate, will lead an afternoon for all lay people in the Archdiocese.  The event will be held on Saturday 16 February 2019 at the Gillis Centre, Edinburgh (2pm to 5pm) and is entitled: “Grief to Grace – the Effects and Treatment of Sexual Abuse.” Entry is free.  To register go to:

Day for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Feb 23 @ 11:00 am – 3:30 pm

There will be a day of study and reflection for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion on 23 February 2019 at the Gillis Centre, Edinburgh. Registration 11am followed by a talk plus Q&A with Father John Deighan. The day concludes with a Holy Hour and Confessions ending at 3:30pm. To book a please contact Anne Lamond:

World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer
The 2019 World Day of Prayer will be held on Friday
1 March. The service this year is prepared by
Slovenia and the theme is ‘Come – Everything Is
Ready’. To mark the event, there will be a service at
2.30pm in Most Holy Trinity, Crail to which all are
most welcome.

Parish Quiz Night

Parish Quiz Night

Our annual Parish Quiz Night will take place on Friday
1 March at 7.30pm in St James’ church hall (over
18s only). Tickets cost £6 and are on sale after all
Sunday Masses. The cost covers entry to the quiz
and a welcome drink. Teams should be made up of
5/6 people. Don’t worry If you don’t have a team or
your team is short, we can sort that out on the night.
Donations to the raffle and bar would be most
welcome. All proceeds will go to the hall renovation

First Saturday Devotions
Mar 2 @ 9:30 am

The next First Saturday of 2019 falls on 2 March. First Saturday Devotions will commece with Mass at St James’ at 9.30am, followed by Confessions, Rosary and Meditation. Please join us in fulfilling the prayer request on Our Lady of Fatima in reparation for sins and for the salvation of sinners.

Lenten Talks for Young Adults
Mar 10 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Archbishop Cushley would like to invite the young adults of our Archdioces to join him for a series of Lenten talks, to be given by himself.  Entitled “On the Way: Walking with Jesus and his Disciples towards Jerusalem”, the talks will take place on Sundays 10 March, 24 March and 7 April (5pm-7pm) at the Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh EH9 1BB.  The evening will consist of a talk by the Archbishop, Q&A, Exposition of the Blesses Sacrament, Benediction and Confession, and will conclude with social time and pizza.  All are very welcome.
