Advent Scripture Study: ‘Matthew’s Gospel for Living a Christian Life’

Corresponding with the beginning of a new liturgical year (Year A), the parish will be hosting a series of four sessions on Matthew’s Gospel just before and during Advent. The sessions will take place on Thursday evenings in the church hall, 7.30pm – 9.00pm (28 Nov, 5, 12, 19 Dec). Each session will be interactive, blending modern scholarship on Matthew with readings of particular passages by parishioners drawing on their own experience. The series will be facilitated by our own longstanding parishioner, Philip Esler, Portland Professor in New Testament Studies at the University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham (and formerly Professor of Biblical Criticism in the University of St Andrews, 1992-2010). Please do put the dates in your diary. All welcome.

Parish Pilgrimage to Salamanca
Jul 22 – Jul 29 all-day

St James’ is pleased to announce the offer of a pilgrimage to Salamanca (22-29 July 2020), led by Fr Galbraith. The pilgrimage would be to follow in the footsteps of St Theresa of Avila and St John of the Cross – celebrating Holy Mass at their respective tombs and visiting places connected to their lives, like Avila, Segovia, Alba de Tormes and Salamanca itself. Accommodation would be at the Royal Scots College, it would be on a half-board basis (including some meals out together), and all travel costs would be included. We are still waiting for the official cost but estimate it would be around £800 per person. If you are interested, please sign up on the sheet at the back of the church and we will have more details next week.
